Outreach to Spanish-speaking taxpayers & reducing victims of tax fraud from immigrant community to headline remarks

Comptroller Peter Franchot

Comptroller Franchot will be the featured speaker of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's monthly meeting and holiday celebration on Thursday evening at the historic Garrett-Jacobs Mansion in Mount Vernon, Baltimore City. He will thank them for their partnership and participation in the office's continued Spanish-speaking taxpayer outreach efforts and discuss ways to better serve the needs of Latino businesses and taxpayers.

The Chamber witnessed substantial growth this year and is expected to eclipse 1,000 members in the coming years. The Chamber has worked to build and promote business opportunities in Maryland and strengthen relationships between government offices and the Hispanic business community. Calls to the Comptroller's Office from Spanish-speaking taxpayers increased 300 percent from 2016 to 2018.
