Direct File is the new free service allowing eligible taxpayers to prepare and electronically file their tax return online directly with the IRS.

The IRS tax filing season will begin on January 27th. Tax season in Maryland will begin on the same day with a controlled rollout in accordance with IRS best practices. Full tax return processing is expected to begin on February 3rd.
