Comptroller to Present Anne Arundel William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award on Monday

Severn School student organized local March For Our Lives rally, organized school safety discussions

WHO:

Comptroller Peter Franchot

WHAT:

Comptroller Franchot will present the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Anne Arundel County on Monday to Mackenzie Boughey, a junior at Severn School in Severna Park.

The Arnold resident has become a local leader in the effort to end gun violence in schools, communities and workplaces, leading the Annapolis "March for Our Lives" rally last spring and organizing community conversations about school safety and gun violence. Boughey is also a gifted bagpiper who led the vigil march from the Maryland State House to the Annapolis City Dock following last summer's shooting at the Annapolis Capital.

The Helping People Award is presented annually by the Comptroller to individuals and organizations in each county and Baltimore City who best exemplify William Donald Schaefer’s lifelong commitment to helping people. Winners are selected based on their demonstration of improving the community; solving a citizen problem through effective government intervention; aiding the most vulnerable in society; or creating a public/private partnership to improve the lives of Marylanders.
