Comptroller Franchot to Speak at Tourism Summit in Western Md.

Shop Maryland for the Holidays campaign kicks off Wednesday

Comptroller Peter Franchot

The Comptroller will spend Wednesday in Western Maryland, beginning in Flintstone, where he will deliver remarks at the annual Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit. He will discuss the importance of tourism to the state's economy and the benefits of starting school after Labor Day, as outlined in a recent Salisbury University report.

Next, he will head to Cumberland to kick off the annual Shop Maryland for the Holidays campaign with a visit to Cumberland Trail Connection in the Shops at Canal Place. The full-service bicycle shop and outdoors store sells and repairs bikes, rents equipment to visitors riding the local trails, and offers an array of tents, sleeping bags and other outdoors gear, in addition to homebrewing supplies.

Continuing his Shop Maryland for the Holidays tour in Frederick, Mr. Franchot will visit Brick & Mortar Mercantile, one of the newest additions to the historic downtown. The store features U.S.-made gifts and home goods for men and women, encouraging consumers to eschew online shopping and come back to traditional retailers with a focus on in-store entertainment and top-notch customer service.
