Comptroller to Speak at Professional Firefighters Convention Wednesday

Skye Bar & Grille will be recognized for oyster shell recycling efforts; Councell Farms in Cordova to be honored

WHO:

Comptroller Peter Franchot

WHAT:

Comptroller Franchot will attend the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) 26th Biennial Convention Wednesday morning in Ocean City where he will offer thanks for the hard work and sacrifice of these first responders. He also will honor retiring Maryland State IAFF President Mike Rund for his 10 years of service.

Afterwards, the Comptroller will present a proclamation to Skye Bar & Grille for their efforts to recycle oyster shells. Recycled shells used by aqua farms stimulate oyster production and promote a cleaner Chesapeake Bay, while individuals and businesses can claim the Oyster Shell Recycling Tax Credit of up to $1,500 a year.

Mr. Franchot then will visit the farm stand at Councell Farms near Cordova. This family farm is run by the 11th generation of the Councell family who have been farming in the region since the 17th century. The farmers market, creamery and "field of fun" provide an influx of agritourism business for the region.
