Comptroller to Speak at Prince George's Back-to-School Block Party on Saturday

Attendees will get free backpacks, school supplies and other giveaways

Comptroller Peter Franchot

The Comptroller will deliver remarks and participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Prince George's Back-to-School Block Party on Saturday morning. This annual event typically draws thousands of area families and students who line up hours in advance to receive free backpacks, school supplies, vision and dental screenings for kids, and more.

Mr. Franchot will speak with attendees and deliver brief remarks about the importance of community support in helping schools thrive and students succeed. He will also encourage parents and students to take advantage of the last day of Maryland's tax-free week, in which individual items of clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less are exempt from the state's 6 percent sales tax.
