Franchot to Celebrate Maryland's Best Chicken Sandwich in Hagerstown

Visits to Jumbo's Pumpkin Patch and Milkhouse Brewery also on tap

Comptroller Peter Franchot

Mr. Franchot begins his Tuesday travels in Hagerstown where he will recognize Washington Chicken, winner of Maryland's Favorite Chicken Sandwichsurvey, conducted on the Comptroller's Facebook page. Owners Sarah and Charles Bowman opened the independent, fast-casual restaurant in 2015 and it quickly became a favorite among locals for its fresh, homemade menu items such as the Toasted Jalapeno Cornbread Chicken Sandwich.

Next, the Comptroller heads to Jumbo's Pumpkin Patch in Middletown, a nationally renowned seventh-generation family farm that offers many acres of pick-your-own pumpkins, a 15-acre corn maze, a hayride, petting zoo, pony rides and more. He will present a proclamation to the Huffer family for bringing families and community together for food and fun since 1994.

Mr. Franchot's final stop will be in Mt. Airy to present Milkhouse Brewery owner Tom Barse with a proclamation recognizing his efforts in the oyster shell recycling partnership. Recycled shells used by aqua farms stimulate oyster production and promote a cleaner Chesapeake Bay, while individuals and businesses can claim the Oyster Shell Recycling Tax Credit of up to $1,500 a year.
