Comptroller Franchot To Lend A Helping Hand For The Holidays

64th annual Goodwill Thanksgiving Dinner and Shepherd's Table meal preparation provide holidays meals for thousands

Comptroller Peter Franchot

On Wednesday morning, Mr. Franchot will join a team of 300 volunteers at the annual Goodwill Thanksgiving Dinner and Resource Fair in Baltimore to serve 3,000 holiday meals to individuals with disabilities or special needs. The event, which is in its 64th year, also serves to connect attendees with Goodwill programs, job training and placement, mental health resources, substance abuse treatment and health insurance enrollment.

In the afternoon, the Comptroller will help prepare meals for those in need at Shepherd's Table in Silver Spring. Founded in 1983 to help provide nutritious meals to Montgomery County's most vulnerable residents, the nonprofit has grown to help a broader population and provide additional services. They now offer an eye clinic, a clothes closet, phone and computer services, prescription assistance and crisis intervention services, among other resources.
