Franchot to Honor D-Day Participants at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home

St. Mary's Cornerstone Award to be presented to Towne Florist

WHO:

Comptroller Peter Franchot

WHAT:

Comptroller Franchot will spend today in St. Mary's County, beginning with a visit to Charlotte Hall Veterans Home where he will honor D-Day survivors and speak with other World War II veterans. The visit comes exactly one week after the 75th anniversary of D-Day, when 156,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of the Nazi-occupied coast of France's Normandy region, ultimately leading to the end of the war in Europe.

Next, Mr. Franchot will head to Leonardtown where he will present the St. Mary's County Cornerstone Award for Local Business Excellence to Towne Florist, which has been a fixture of the community since 1958.

The Comptroller will then stop by Knotted Mercantile at Cecil's Country Store, where he will present new owner Misty Knott with a proclamation for transforming this well-known small business with a rich history into a vibrant, modern home furnishings shop.
