Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-op hosts annual community event with green vendors, local food, music, demonstrations and more

Comptroller Peter Franchot
Congressman Jaimie Raskin
County Executive Marc Elrich
Delegate Lorig Charkoudian

Comptroller Franchot will attend and offer remarks at the annual Earth Day Celebration hosted by the Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-op on Saturday. The event features green vendors, local food, community groups, demonstrations, music and a toy exchange for kids. Speakers will discuss green initiatives that all residents can take to support the environment.

The theme of Earth Day 2019 is "Protect Our Species," which aims to raise awareness about the accelerating rate of extinction of millions of species and habitats, encouraging individual actions to be more conscious of the environment and promoting broad policy initiatives that will ensure the longevity of our planet. Bees, coral reefs, whales, giraffes and elephants are the species currently under the greatest threat and will represent a core focus for this year's Earth Day.
