Comptroller's Cup Awards to be Presented at Catoctin Breeze Vineyard

William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award to be presented at Frederick City Hall

Comptroller Peter Franchot

Mr. Franchot will visit Frederick County on Tuesday to present the Comptroller's Cup Best in Show Award to Catoctin Breeze Vineyard in Thurmont for the second consecutive year. A panel of judges rated Catoctin Breeze's 2017 Cabernet Franc the top overall wine among several hundred submissions from vineyards throughout Maryland. The Comptroller will also present Best in Class awards to eight wineries judged to have the best selections in a variety of styles. Two producers -- Port of Leonardtown Winery in St. Mary's County and Big Cork Vineyards in Washington County -- will receive Best in Class awards in two separate categories.

Afterwards, Comptroller Franchot will head to Frederick City Hall to present the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Frederick County. The surprise recipient is a lifelong leader in the community, having spent countless hours providing for the less fortunate, raising scholarship money for local students and serving numerous volunteer roles over the years. (**Media who want more information on the recipient before Tuesday's presentation should contact Press Secretary Alan Brody.)
